About Dr. Danielle Quintana

Expert Perioperative Nurse Insight

Dr. Danielle Quintana, PhD, RN, CNOR-E, is a perioperative nurse with more than 25 years of operating room experience first as a surgical technologist and then an RN, educated at Thomas Edison State University and Texas Woman’s University, whose scholarship focuses on surgical conscience and the development of the BSCA instrument, and who currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Texas Woman’s University and a member of the AORN National Committee on Education.

Evidence-Informed Perioperative Education

Dr. Danielle Quintana is a perioperative nurse leader, educator, and researcher whose work focuses on the concept of surgical conscience and ethical action in the operating room. Drawing on over two decades of operating room experience and her scholarly research on surgical conscience, she provides expert insight into how perioperative nurses can strengthen patient safety, accountability, and professional integrity.

Guided by the Compass

Guided by the Compass explores the concept of surgical conscience as a moral and professional compass guiding perioperative nurses in safe, ethical, and patient-centered practice. Drawing on theory, research, and real-world clinical experiences, the book examines the internal and external factors that influence whether clinicians speak up, act, or remain silent in the operating room. Through reflective narratives, evidence-based frameworks, and practical strategies, the book equips perioperative nurses, educators, and leaders to cultivate moral courage, navigate hierarchy and culture, and strengthen advocacy behaviors that protect patients and uphold professional integrity.
